The Rs 1000 Notes were available post Independence. After minting them for quite some time, these were demonetized during the 1980s to curb black money. There were no notes printed during the tenor of LK Jha, BN Adarkar and S Jagannathan. They were printed later during NC Sen Gupta and then KR Puri. It was only in the 2000s that these notes were re-introduced during the tenor of Bimal Jalan.
